This year’s theme is Mississippi's Bicentennial. Our special guest speaker is Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
Entertainment will include Rogena Mitchell singing and a tableau (scene) about the Bicentennial. The scene will focus on the settling and evolution of Jackson County.
Characters in the scene include Thomas Bilbo who was Militia Major in 1812, Chief Justice of the Jackson County Quorum Courts in 1812, 1813, and 1819, Mississippi Constitutional Convention Delegate in 1817, Surveyor of Jackson County, and boat builder.
In addition to surveying the original boundaries of Jackson County, Bilbo surveyed claims up and down the Pascagoula River, traveling in a boat of his own design.
W.T. Sparkman will represent 1917. He was a longtime publisher and editor of the Pascagoula Democrat-Star, later named The Chronicle-Star, and the Moss Point Advertiser from 1915 until 1944, with time off in the early 1920s when he served as the Pascagoula postmaster.
We will have the cake pull with a pearl necklace donated by Johnson's Jewelers and cake donated by Anderson's Bakery.
Door prizes have been donated by Bridget Blue Designs and Gulf Coast Photographix
